What is the Global Issues Action Institute?
The focus of the Global Issues Action Institute will be global poverty, education, and bridging the digital divide. In examining these issues, participants will hear from guest speakers and work with organizations including National Geographic, and The World Bank.Additionally, participants will be enrolled in a digital storey-telling sequence run by LA-based Alas Media, where they will learn skills necessary to tell stories through digital media. There will be concurrent professional development sessions available for teachers on the subject of “teaching for understanding”, which will provide the opportunity for networking and curriculum development on these critical global issues. In additional to high-quality workshops, students and teachers will participate in hands-on learning activities with other Washington organizations.
